Exploding Papayas

One day, Alan’s family visited Grandma, who lived in a village in the New Territories. His parents were busy talking with Grandma so they ordered Alan and his brother Zeto to play outside.

‘I’m bored. Let’s have some fun!’ Alan suggested.

‘Oh! It’s a good idea!’ Zeto replied excitedly.

They looked around and saw some ripe and big papayas.

‘I know it!’ Alan shouted loudly and looked cunning. He bought some firecrackers from a nearby store.

‘What’re you going to do with the firecrackers?’ Zeto asked and looked puzzled.

Alan giggled and said, ‘It’s a secret. Just wait and see!’ Shortly after that, Alan picked two papayas from a tree behind them. Then, Alan ordered Zeto to insert the firecrackers into the papayas. Zeto finally understood Alan’s naughty trick.

They lit the firecrackers and ran away quickly. They hid behind a strong tree and observed nervously what was going to happen.

‘BOMB! BOMB!’ The papayas exploded one by one loudly. Seeing that, they were thrilled with joy.

While they were laughing, the owner appeared suddenly. He roared furiously at them. ‘Thieves! Thieves!’ He caught them immediately.

The two boys were afraid. The owner scolded them harshly and informed their parents about their misbehaviour.

His mother punished them by not allowing them to play video games for a month. Finally, they learned that they were wrong and should respect the property of others.
